Cookie-Cutter Outline Converter: SVG for Laser & CNC

A cookie cutter is the silhouette of a shape, offset outward to create the blade wall. Most designers struggle with the offset step — it requires manual path operations in Illustrator or Inkscape. Lazrit's cookie-cutter converter does the silhouette extraction and offset in one pass.

3 lifetime exports — no credit card.

The problem

Cookie-cutter files need a clean closed outline at a specific offset distance. Tracing-and-offsetting by hand is fiddly and error-prone. Lazrit produces a single clean cuttable outline.

How Lazrit handles it

  1. Upload the source imageAny silhouette or filled-in artwork. Higher contrast traces cleaner.
  2. Lazrit extracts the silhouetteInternal cuts and detail are stripped. The result is a single outer boundary.
  3. Apply the offsetPick a wall thickness (typically 5–8 mm for cookie cutters). The outline is offset outward to create the blade wall.
  4. ExportThe exported SVG is a single closed path — load into LightBurn and cut from 1/8" plywood or food-safe 3D-print filament.

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep internal detail (eyes, mouth) on the cutter?

Yes — in the workspace, mark interior cuts as separate cut layers. They'll export with the silhouette.

What's a reasonable offset for cookie cutters?

5–8 mm wall thickness is typical for plywood or PLA cutters. Larger offsets are stiffer; smaller offsets cut sharper cookies.

Can I use this for fondant or clay cutters too?

Yes — same workflow. Adjust the offset based on the material you're cutting through.

Does Lazrit support 3D printable cutters?

Lazrit produces an SVG. Extrude in your CAD tool of choice (or use SVG-to-STL).
